Know Your CNC Machine Before It Fails.
Turn temperature and vibration signals into real-time operational visibility with ESP32, MQTT and the FAVORIOT IoT Platform.
Explore the Project ↓Turn temperature and vibration signals into real-time operational visibility with ESP32, MQTT and the FAVORIOT IoT Platform.
Explore the Project ↓CNC machines can develop unusual vibration and temperature patterns before operators notice a problem. This educational prototype captures both signals and makes them visible remotely.
Collect vibration and temperature readings using sensors attached to an ESP32.
Send telemetry to FAVORIOT using MQTT and inspect readings through dashboards and trends.
Set threshold rules to notify maintenance personnel when readings need attention.

A practical starting sequence based on the original tutorial. The code below is a payload example, not a complete firmware sketch.
{
"device_developer_id": "YOUR_DEVICE_ID",
"data": {
"temperature": 42.6,
"vibration": 2.4
}
}
Example rule: send an alert when the measured temperature exceeds 70°C.
Example rule: flag a vibration metric above a calibrated limit. The original tutorial uses 10 m/s² as an illustrative threshold.
Route events through available FAVORIOT rule actions or a configured webhook to email, Telegram or another approved service.
Thresholds are examples only. Machine-specific baselines, sampling frequency, sensor placement and safety reviews are required for real deployment. Never rely on a cloud alert as a machine safety interlock.
Compare machine behavior across operating periods and investigate recurring anomalies.
Explore anomaly detection and predictive maintenance once enough representative data has been collected.
Evaluate a suitable PLC or industrial gateway for production use, with machine controls remaining under approved local safety systems.
Start with one CNC machine. Learn from its data. Build confidence before expanding across the factory floor.
